MLB Picks And Parlays: Detroit Tiger Heads to Seattle on ESPN Monday Night Baseball to face the Mariners
by Matt Cash @MattCashCapper
Detroit could certainly use a boost as they travel to Seattle to begin a four-game set with the Mariners. This was a .500 team 11 days ago, but have since gone 3-7 and have fallen to fourth place in the AL Central.
Part of the problem is the quality of their opponents as they dropped two of three to Boston, two straight to Arizona and they split a four-game weekend series against Tampa Bay. Each of those teams is above .500.
They won the first two of their weekend series with the Rays before dropping the last two. They managed to put 18 runs on the board through the wins and just three in the losses.
The Detroit Tigers have managed to put up 6 RPG through their first 14 games this month and are eighth in the AL with a 4.57 ERA in June.
Seattle Mariners has not fared much better than Detroit of late. In fact, just like their opponents, they were a .500 team 11 days ago. They are 4-7 since then after dropping two of three to the Blue Jays, splitting a four-game set with the Twins and most recently losing two of three to the Rangers.
The pitching has been especially porous through the losses, having allowed 20 runs in one game to the Twins and ten in each of the first two games versus the Rangers.
Add it all up and the team’s ERA is 5.27 this month. The offense has been hot in their wins however and have averaged 5.81 RPG in June.
Anibal Sanchez will be the starting pitcher for the Tigers tonight. Right hander Sanchez is 0-0 this season with a 10.71 ERA.
Sam Gaviglio (3-1, 3.41 ERA) gets the nod for the Mariners. This is his seventh start of the year and 15th in his career for the 27-year old. In five of the seven starts he’s allowed either one or no earned runs. In the other two, including last week’s 6-4 win over the Twins he’s allowed nine runs in 10.1 innings. The Mariners have won his last four starts.
- Detroit is 5-2 ATS in its last 7 games
- Detroit is 3-7 SU in its last 10 games
- Detroit is 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games on the road
- Seattle is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
- Seattle is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games
- Seattle is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games at home
Cash It In: Seattle are -145 favorites, Detroit +125 underdogs and the runline odds is at -1½ (+135) on the Mariners. Both have starting pitchers who have faired pretty well of late. But Detroit is flying cross-country on short rest while Seattle returns from Texas. The extra travel gives the Mariners the edge. Mariners 5-3.
