In game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals, LeBron James scored 31 points, JR Smith had eight three-point baskets and garnered a total of 28 points and helped the Cleveland Cavaliers defeat the Atlanta Hawks 97-89 on Wednesday night and take a 1-0 led in the series. Wishing to provide a first NBA title to the city of Cleveland, James confirmed the win with a powerful dunk in the final minute of play. However, it is JR Smith who was the trigger for the Cavaliers in scoring a franchise record, eight shots being the arc.
As for the Hawks, they cashed the home defeat in the first game of a series for the second time in a row. The Cavaliers will try to increase their hold on the series on Friday, in Game # 2. Jeff Teague was the most productive for the Hawks in game 1 with 27 points. However, the Hawks took a turn for the worst when starting small forward Demare Carroll, and one of the Hawks top scorers, left with 4:59 to go in the game because of what appears to be a left knee injury. Carroll needed help going to the locker room, and was unable to put weight on his leg (Something to consider before placing your bets).
Demarre Carroll’s Status
The back of the Atlanta Hawks, starter Demarre Carroll, who left Wednesday’s game suffers a minor injury in his left knee, the team said Thursday. “The examinations carried out Thursday are negative, it does not suffer any ligament damage”, said the Hawks. The Hawks small forward’ however is uncertain for the game 2″scheduled Friday still in Atlanta, said the team. Carroll is the most prolific player of the Hawks since the playoffs with 17.1 points per game. He was injured with five minutes left to play in Game 1 and had to be rushed to the locker room by the Hawks medical staff. He finished with five points, one rebound and two steals.Carroll was responsible for marking LeBron James, the star of the Cavaliers. He could be replaced by Kent Bazemore, who presented an average of 5.2 points and three rebounds in 17 minutes per game.
