NCAA Hockey Tournament Betting Odds

The bracket is set for the 2017 NCAA men’s hockey tournament and with 16 teams set to face off in four separate regions, it’s time to strap in for some cawlidge hawkey as we whittle the field down to the final four, or as it’s called in hockey – the Frozen Four.

Online sportsbook Bovada opened their oddsboard with Denver as the favorite at +400 with Minnesota-Duluth (+700), Harvard (+750), UMass Lowell (+900) and Western Michigan (+1000) rounding out the top five.

As seven-time winners of the tournament, the 29-7-4 Denver Pioneers will be confident heading into the tournament as the No. 1 seed. Denver won more games than any other team in NCAA college hockey this season and boasts a roster filled with NHL prospects including Henrik Borgstrom, Will Butcher, Dylan Gambrell and Troy Terry. The Pioneers will face Michigan Tech in the first round of the tournament and should handle them easily.

A possible long shot here is Jack Eichel’s alma mater, Boston University, at +1100. The Terriers finished first in the extremely tough Hockey East with a 13-6-3 in-conference record and are just loaded with studs including 2017 world junior gold medallists Clayton Keller, Jordan Greenway and Jake Oettinger. This could be the best team in the tournament and the odds don’t reflect that. Take advantage of this line in an extremely unpredictable tournament.

Minnesota-Duluth has possibly the toughest bracket and is a candidate for early elimination. If they meet North Dakota in the regional finals, they’ll have to face forward Tyson Jost, one of the most highly touted prospects from the 2016 NHL entry draft. Jost has 35 points in 32 games for North Dakota and should join the Avalanche for the final few games of the NHL season if his team is knocked out before the Frozen Four.

If you haven’t watched the tournament before, it’s a great way to familiarize yourself with the up-and-coming NHL talent and tossing a few bucks on it is an easy way to invest yourself in the action.
