The online sportsbooks had a hard time settling on a favorite for Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots, and the game did go down to the wire with Tom Brady and company pulling out the SU and ATS victory in a 28-24 win over the defending champions.
After a scoreless first quarter the Patriots finally opened the scoring in the second quarter with Brady connecting on an 11-yard touchdown strike to Brandon LaFell. The Seahawks then tied up the game on a three-yard Marshawn Lynch touchdown run seven minutes later.
New England grabbed a 14-7 lead in the final minute of the second quarter with Rob Gronkowski catching a 22-yard touchdown pass from Brady, but the Seahawks pulled even again with two seconds left before halftime as Russell Wilson hit Chris Matthews with an 11-yard TD strike.

Seattle then dominated the third quarter with a 27-yard field goal from Steven Hauschka and a three-yard touchdown reception by Doug Baldwin, going up 24-14 heading into the fourth quarter. That, however, was it for Seattle on the night.
The Patriots cut the Seahawks’ lead to 24-21 with a Danny Amendola four-yard touchdown reception midway through the fourth quarter, and then took the lead for good with a Julian Edelman three-yard touchdown catch with two minutes left in the game. Patriots safety Malcolm Butler then sealed the win with a goal-line interception of Wilson.
Brady, the game’s MVP, went 37 of 50 for 328 passing yards in Super Bowl XLIX with four touchdown passes and two interceptions, with Edelman his top receiver with nine catches for 109 yards and a score in the contest. Gronkowski had six catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.
For the Seahawks, Wilson was good on just 12 of 21 pass attempts for 247 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, with Chris Matthews catching four balls for 109 yards and a score. Lynch rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on his 24 carries in the contest.
The Seahawks had opened as 2-point favorites for Super Bowl XLIX at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, and closed as consensus 1-point favorites for the game at the online sportsbooks. The combined score went OVER the night’s posted total of 47.5 points.
Brady won the Super Bowl for the fourth time and the Super Bowl MVP award for the third time. Bill Belichick received a blue Gatorade shower after the game, while Idina Menzel’s 2 minute, 4 second rendition of the national anthem went OVER the posted sportsbook time of 2:01. The coin toss, which was tails, was won by the Seahawks.
