There are only two playoff spots still up for grabs heading into NFL Week 17, but plenty of teams are still jockeying for position in the postseason pecking order with the regular season set to close on Sunday.
In the AFC the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans, and Kansas City Chiefs are all still vying for the final Wild Card berth, with San Diego holding down that spot heading into Sunday. In the NFC the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons are set to battle for the NFC South crown, with the loser eliminated from playoff contention.
Matchup Reports: Detroit vs. Green Bay | Carolina vs. Atlanta | Cincinnati vs. Pittsburgh
The Falcons will host the Panthers in their showdown for the NFC South crown at 4:25pm ET on Sunday, with Atlanta listed as a 3-point home favorite for the game at the Georgia Dome. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS and 3-2 SU in their last five games against the Falcons according to the Week 17 NFL betting trends. The two teams are a combined 12-17-1 SU on the season.
Meanwhile, the Ravens host the Cleveland Browns as big 13.5-point home favorites on Sunday afternoon, while the Texans are 10.5-point home favorites against the Jacksonville Jaguars in another 1:00pm ET kickoff on Sunday. The Chargers and Chiefs meet at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, with that game listed as a pick’em at the online sportsbooks.
The New England Patriots have already locked down a first-round bye in the AFC, and the Denver Broncos will be looking to do the same on Sunday as 14.5-point home favorites against the Oakland Raiders. The Cincinnati Bengals could get that first-round bye if the Broncos stumble and they manage to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night as 3.5-point road favorites. The Steelers win the AFC North if they beat the Bengals on Sunday.
As for the NFC, five teams enter Sunday with 11 wins and sit in contention for a bye week – the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Dallas Cowboys. Seattle is an 11-5-point home favorite against St. Louis, with Arizona at +7.5 on the road at San Francisco, Dallas at -3.5 on the road at Washington, and Green Bay at -9 at home against Detroit in a game that will also settle the NFC North division crown.
