It’s only mid-November, but it’s not an exaggeration to say Seattle faces a make-or-break situation when hosting Arizona Sunday night.
If the 4-4 Seahawks lose to the 6-2 Cardinals, they fall three games behind in the NFC West division with seven games to go.
Things could really unravel for the Seahawks with a loss considering some of the personalities on the team and losing a division showdown in their beloved CenturyLink Field where they are 28-3 the past four seasons, 20-10-1 against the spread according to the OddsShark NFL Database.
The oddsmakers believe Arizona is the superior team opening Seattle minus three. The Seahawks’ home field, arguably the strongest in the NFL, is worth more than a field goal.
Bettors Believe in Seahawks This Weekend
Judging by activity in the marketplace, bettors believe in the Seahawks as the line is inching towards possibly becoming 3.5 with a number of sportsbooks assigning extra juice to the Seahawks’ minus three.
Any NFL game played on Sunday night is going to draw a huge handle. This matchup, though, is highly attractive with serious ramifications.
Can the Cardinals prove they are an elite team? All of their victories have been against sub .500 teams, who have a combined record of 15-36. Arizona has covered 12 of its last 17 road games, though, and is 19-4 in Carson Palmer’s 23 starts.
The Cardinals own the best net yardage in the NFL at plus 837. They are averaging 32.9 points per game compared to Seattle’s 20.9 points a game.
Seattle Looking To Regain its Swagger
Seattle has yet to regain its identity and swagger from the previous three seasons. Russell Wilson and Jimmy Graham have shown little chemistry, the offensive line has been performing poorly and the defense hasn’t been as tenacious under new defensive coordinator Kris Richard.
But the Seahawks still rank in the top three in total defense and scoring defense – the two most important categories. The bye came at a much-needed time for Seattle. Left tackle Russell Okung is expected back to boost the offensive line, which didn’t give up a sack against Dallas in its last game.
The spot sets up well for the Seahawks being home, healthy and in must-win mode. Both teams face the test of proving how good they really are.
