Odds For Each MLB Team To Make The Playoffs

We are just days away from the first pitch and soon we will be in the dog days of summer. The MLB season is a marathon of 162 games that can see a team get hot at the right time and find itself in the postseason.

But if you are feeling excited about your favorite team’s chances of making the playoffs – or missing it, if you’re an Atlanta Braves fan like me – then you can wager on that right now.

The best odds to make the postseason, unsurprisingly, go to the Chicago Cubs. The Cubbies enter the season at -1200 to play extra baseball and it’s easy to see why after their last year. The reigning World Series champions have a lineup filled to the brim with young, phenomenal bats and their rotation is one of the best in baseball. A comet would need to come out of the heavens and destroy Wrigley Field for the Cubs to miss the postseason.

On the other end of the spectrum, the San Diego Padres have the worst odds to be playing baseball come October. The Padres won just 68 games last season, finished last in the NL West and have maybe the worst starting rotation in recent memory. There are plenty of younger players in the lineup to be mildly optimistic about for the future…the distant future.

If you’re looking for some value, you may want to take a look at the Texas Rangers. The Rangers won a competitive AL West last season and posted a stellar 95 wins. Texas has two top-flight starters in Cole Hamels and Yu Darvish and signed a couple of solid arms in Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross. There are still holes to fill in the batting order with Ian Desmond and Mitch Moreland gone but there is plenty of youth that has the potential to fill those.
