Oklahoma new No. 1 in coaches poll following win over Iowa State

It looks like we’re going to get the No. 1 vs. No. 1 matchup on Monday that college basketball has clamored for.

Oklahoma is the new No. 1 team in the country according to the coaches poll, edging No. 2 Kansas by a slim 781-769 vote margin. The Sooners received 20 first-place votes against Kansas’ 11. Michigan State, who dropped from No. 1 to No. 5, received the lingering final first-place vote. Kansas is expected to be named the No. 1 team in the Associated Press poll, which will be released later on Monday.

Maryland and Virginia rounded out the top-five at Nos. 3 and 4 respectively, followed by the Spartans, Arizona at No. 6, North Carolina at No. 7, Kentucky at No. 8, Providence at No. 9 and Duke at No. 10.

Two new teams also entered the poll this week. Iowa jumped from not receiving any votes last week to No. 23 this week following its wins over both Michigan State at No. 18 Purdue. New No. 24 Connecticut also entered the poll. The two teams replaced Utah and Cincinnati, each of whom lost last week.
