Oklahoma State upsets No. 3 Kansas; Jawun Evans continues to shine

Oklahoma State’s Jawun Evans is on a tear right now and should be getting more recognition as one of the top freshman in the country.

Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram deserve the attention they get, but Evans added to his case as one of the best rookies in the country with his all-around great performance (22 points, eight assists, six rebounds) in an upset of No. 3 Kansas at home on Tuesday night.

Evans was named the CBS Sports Freshman of the Week earlier Tuesday after a productive week highlighted by his 42-point outing against Oklahoma. That performance set a freshman record but also gave us a preview of what might be to come against the best in the Big 12.

Evans got off to a slow start against the Jayhawks with just two assists and four turnovers in the early going, but he did a great job of running the offense and setting up his teammates as the Cowboys pulled away in the second half.

Evans hasn’t always been counted on as the top scorer for the Cowboys, but his productivity in Big 12 play has become an encouraging storyline for an Oklahoma State team sliding to the bottom of the Big 12. On Tuesday night Evans was able to finish the upset job he tried to power against the Sooners and at this point the entire Big 12 should be on notice for No. 1 in Stillwater.

For Kansas, it’s the third year in a row that Bill Self has lost in Stillwater and it drops the Jayhawks to 4-2 in Big 12 play.
