According to a recent article by Jim McBride of the Boston Globe, the Patriots have won the coin flip an astonishing 19 of the last 25 times. As pointed out by Ryan Wilson of CBSSports.com, the probability of winning a 50/50 coin toss is 0.0073.
As McBride points out, the Pats normally defer and take the ball to start the second half.
“It’s one of the things we discuss prior to the game,” head coach Bill Belichick said. “We try to do what’s best for that particular game, for that particular situation.”
Over the course of those 25 games, the Pats have posted a record of 15-9-1 against the spread. But maybe hammer the “YES” on the “Will the Patriots win the coin toss” on your books’ prop board.
