The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is working to determine if an outbreak of gastrointestinal issues among Boston College students, including at least eight members of the basketball team, could be related to the ongoing national outbreak of E. coli.
According to a statement from the school, the common link between the students is a Chipotle restaurant in Cleveland Circle. Students were reportedly notified via email on Monday by the school after the link was discovered among students checking in at Health Services.
Boston College big man Dennis Clifford missed Sunday’s game, a disappointing close loss to UMass-Lowell, because of an illness, and freshman Jerome Robinson was also sick, though he did finish with a team-high 16 points.
With Eli Carter also sitting out because of an ankle injury, the Eagles started five freshman in the game.
As of Monday evening, at least eight different players reported gastrointestinal issues. It is unknown at this time who, if anyone, will miss Wednesday’s game against Providence.
