Providence wins at Butler, moves to sixth in CBS Sports Top 25 (and one)

Providence's Rodney Bullock (USATSI)
Providence’s Rodney Bullock scored a career-high 25 points Thursday vs. Butler. (USATSI)

Providence overcame a double-digit deficit to win at Butler on Thursday while Villanova routed Xavier. So it was an interesting day in the Big East, and the result is this:

  • Providence went from No. 8 to No. 6 in the Top 25 (and one).
  • Villanova went from No. 15 to No. 8.
  • Xavier dropped from No. 5 to No 9.
  • Butler dropped from No. 11 to No 13.

Consequently, yes, Arizona, Miami, Louisville and Iowa State are each one spot lower in the Top 25 (and one) today than they were yesterday even though they didn’t play yesterday. But please don’t ask why they dropped without losing. Because they didn’t drop; they were merely pushed down because of movement above them.

So don’t blame me if you’re upset.

Blame the Big East.
