For the majority of their 22-year history, the Toronto Raptors have been a non-factor in the NBA, but the script has been flipped on that narrative over the last few years thanks to three consecutive playoff appearances and a run to the Eastern Conference finals in 2016. One thing hasn’t changed, though: their Game 1 curse.
The Raptors franchise has played in 11 Game 1s in the last 17 years, and they’ve gone a brutal 1-10 SU and 2-9 ATS in that span. Toronto’s last triumph in a series opener came all the way back in 2001 when they topped the Philadelphia 76ers 96-93.
The 2017 edition of the Dinos is set to open a first-round series with the Milwaukee Bucks at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday, and it’s going to be hard for sharp sports bettors to trust them.
The Raptors are clearly a more talented team than the Bucks, but then again you could say that about the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat, the teams they faced in the first and second rounds last year. Series-opening losses to both of those teams came north of the border in uninspiring fashion.
