Reds: RH Asher Wojciechowski (1-0, 4.50)
Dodgers: LH Alex Wood (6-0, 1.69)
Los Angeles took the opening game of this three-game set 7-2. Both Rich Hill (5IP, 2 hits, 1 ER) and Kenta Maeda (4IP, 3 hits, 1 ER) had redeeming performances for the Dodgers after struggling for much of the season.
They beat a Reds team that had won four straight coming into this one after they swept the Cardinals. But Amir Garrett has struggled most of the season and that was the case once again on Friday as he lasted just one inning allowing two runs.
The Reds offense has been dynamite of late and most of the year, averaging 5.15 RPG and they’ll look to get back on track on Saturday. They are facing a Dodgers staff with a 3.16 ERA which is first in the Majors by a long shot.
Meanwhile the Reds are fourth worst in the Majors (and NL) with a 4.75 ERA and LA are ninth in the Majors averaging 4.76 RPG.
Asher Wojciechowski (1-0, 4.50 ERA) will start just his third game of the year and sixth of his career on Saturday. He was solid against the Cardinals last time out, allowing two earned runs on eight hits in six innings.
Alex Wood (6-0, 1.69 ERA) has been one of the stories of the league this year, but he went on the DL for ten days with a shoulder issue and this is his first start back. Prior to the injury he’d pitched four straight games and five out of six without allowing a run.
Expect Wood to be somewhat rusty, but that is still a huge pitching disparity and that gives the Dodgers the edge.
