Eddie Jordan will not return next season as Rutgers’ coach, a source told CBS Sports.
Jordan spent parts of nine seasons as a head coach in the NBA before replacing Mike Rice at Rutgers in April 2013. The former Rutgers guard went 12-21 in his first season, 10-22 in his second season and 7-25 this season thanks to Thursday night’s loss to Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament. The Scarlet Knights went 1-18 this season in games against Big Ten opponents. Their only league win was a win over Minnesota.
A formal announcement of this development — which was also reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, who contributed to this report — is expected soon.
Twenty of Rutgers’ 25 losses this season came by double-digits.
The Scarlet Knights haven’t made the NCAA Tournament since 1991.
