Sunday’s NHL schedule leaves a little to be desired from a pure hockey sense but for bettors, it’s a fairly juicy one. In what is probably the marquee matchup today, we have the Penguins hosting the Sabres with Sidney Crosby and co. looking for their 10th win against them in these team’s last 11 matchups.
– Shark BITES
- The Sabres’ win in their last game against the Penguins was their first against them since 2012.
- Pittsburgh has outscored Buffalo by an average of 2.4 goals in their last 10 contests.
- The Penguins are 26-7 SU at home this season.
Both teams have been dealing with a slew of injuries and it’s really affected their play. The Sabres have won just one game in their last six contests, giving up an average of 3.83 goals in that time frame. While Pittsburgh will be relying on Brian Dumoulin, Justin Schultz, Mark Streit and Ron Hainsey as their top four defensemen today, making them vulnerable in their own end with Kris Letang expected to once again be out of the lineup.
A bet I’ll be targeting today is the OVER. Pittsburgh is the best OVER team in the league, and with a 22-8-3 O/U record and a 3.91 goals per game average at the PPG Paints Arena this year, their home fans have basically been blinded by the red light going off.
Additionally, the total has gone OVER in the Pens’ last four home games with all but one of those matchups finishing with a total of seven. Pittsburgh should win by a couple goals this afternoon but they’ll probably concede a couple of their own in the process.
