So DePersio found an option within the conference – and a pretty damn good one, at that.
“I had a friend who went to Kansas,” DePersio says, while settling in at the SouthPoint sportsbook this morning, about an hour before the NCAA tournament tipped off. “So I followed Colorado football and Kansas basketball.”
DePersio is sporting a Jayhawks foamhead, and he hasn’t even had an adult beverage yet, as he sips on a cup of coffee and a bottled water. He’s doing some strategizing, getting some bets together – but top-seeded Kansas, laying 26 points against No. 16 Austin Peay in the South Region this afternoon, is a bridge too far.
“I’ll take the underdog on that, because when the Jayhawks get up by 20 or more, they start showboating,” DePersio says. “I’ll take dogs all day. This has nothing to do with my bracket. This has to do with my wallet.”
So does he see any upsets in those ‘dogs? Well, perhaps a modest one.
“I’m not sold on UConn,” he says, noting the Huskies – a No. 9 seed – are laying points against No. 8 Colorado in South. “But it’s only three points.”
