Sportsbooks react as Judge nullifies Brady suspension

USA TODAY Sports

U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman has nullified the NFL’s four game suspension of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for his part in the Deflategate scandal and sportsbooks have been quick to react.

With the news Brady would be available for the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers a week from today, sportsbooks had to temporarily take down the line and re-open it. Most now have the Patriots as 6-point home favorites.

At Sportsbook, New England re-opened at -6 and since the new line has been posted 89 percent of wagers are backing the Patriots and they expect the line to move again with so much money on the Pats. CarbonSports also now have the Patriots as 6-point home favorites. Both had the Patriots at -3.5 prior to the news.

William Hill US moved the Patriots from 3-point to 6.5-point home favorites against the Steelers, while they also improved the Patriots Super Bowl odds from 12/1 to 9/1.

Meanwhile at topbet, likes the news more than most already having the Patriots favored by a converted touchdown over Pittsburgh and moved from 10/1 to 7/1 to win the Super Bowl.

Berman announced Thursday, that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell went too
far in doling out his punishment to Brady, who insisted he played no
role in a conspiracy to deflate footballs in last season’s AFC
Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.
