With a pair of rematches from regular-season games this year scheduled to take place in Sunday’s AFC and NFC Championship Games there is just one possibility of a second meeting between two teams in the 2015 Super Bowl.
That would be the AFC’s top-seeded New England Patriots against the NFC’s second-seeded Green Bay Packers, who won the first meeting 26-21 as 1.5-point home favorites in Week 13.
A Patriots versus Packers Super Bowl matchup pitting two of the NFL’s top quarterbacks against each other for a second time in Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, respectively, pays 4/1 at Bodog. But bettors can also wager on the exact result of that potential blockbuster game. New England is 19/10 to win the Super Bowl, although winning this particular rematch pays even better at 6/1. Likewise, Green Bay is 11/2 to win the Super Bowl, yet taking the second meeting too with this exact matchup is worth 15/2.
However, the most likely 2015 Super Bowl matchup according to the oddsmakers is the Patriots against the NFC’s top-seeded Seattle Seahawks at 5/6 odds. The defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks will host the Packers on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game and have not faced New England since 2012, when they won 24-23 as 4-point home underdogs on a 46-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Russell Wilson to wide receiver Sidney Rice with 1:18 left in the game.
Wilson was a rookie at the time making just his sixth career start against the Patriots, and Seattle’s playoff run that year ultimately fell short as the team lost to the Atlanta Falcons 30-28 as 2.5-point road underdogs in the Divisional Round. The Seahawks have not lost a playoff game since then, going 4-0 straight-up and 2-1-1 against the spread. Repeating as Super Bowl champs with another win against New England is worth 2/1 at Bodog, and the Patriots upsetting Seattle in the big game is 3/1. The Seahawks are the favorites to win the Super Bowl of the four teams left at 5/4 odds.
Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts will have something to say about these potential Super Bowl matchups on Sunday when they visit New England in the AFC Championship Game. Luck’s Colts will face a tough task against the Patriots, which is why they are 3/1 to meet Seattle in the Super Bowl and 8/1 to take on Green Bay. Bettors can get the most value on Indy winning the Super Bowl by wagering on the team to beat the Seahawks (9/1) or Packers (14/1). The Colts are 13/2 to win the Super Bowl, and losing to Seattle (5/1) or Green Bay (12/1) are additional betting options at Bodog.
