The OddsShark Super Computer went 2-3 in its five Westgate Super Contest picks last week and needs a 5-0 sweep in Week 2 to get some early momentum.
The enhanced computer, which spent the summer undergoing major tune-ups and testing new formulas, has five strong plays among its list of 16 predicted scores.
So the picks for getting us back in the mix for the Super Contest are as follows (see the latest lines and best value for these underdog picks over at Bodog) . . .
Arizona -1.5 at Chicago
Computer says 27.2 to 25.4 Cards | Matchup Stats
The Bears almost never start the season 0-2, but they almost never win as home dogs in recent years. They lost nine straight and covered just one spread in this situation. Arizona should be able to pound the ball, while its defense need only slow down Matt Forte to make this an easy winner.
San Francisco +5.5 at Pittsburgh
Computer says 25.9 to 23 Steelers | Matchup Stats
The Niners surprised the doubters in easily handling the Vikings in Week 1. Colin Kaepernick looked like his old self, which could be bad news for a depleted Steelers defense. San Francisco seldom catches this many points but the last six times they have gotten five or more points, they won outright as underdogs four times. The Niners are a threat to win here, the points are a bonus.
Dallas +5.5 at Philadelphia
Computer says 29.2 to 24.4 Eagles | Matchup Stats
When the Eagles and Cowboys meet, the road team almost always win (8-2 past 10). And Dallas looked strong in Week 1, despite their late escape over the Giants, while the Eagles looked lost for a half in losing at Atlanta. Even with no Dez Bryant, the Cowboys are a threat to win outright here. The Cowboys are 8-1 SU in divisional road games the past three seasons and ride a 7-1 ATS streak in road games overall.
Cincinnati -3 at home to San Diego
Computer says 26.8 to 20.6 | Matchup Stats
The biggest line value, according to the computer’s predictions, is the Bengals to easily cover three points at home to the Chargers. San Diego has been a winning road bet in September games the past few seasons, but the Bengals own a 5-1 ATS edge in six recent meetings.
Baltimore -6 at Oakland
Computer says 24.2 to 16.8 | Matchup Stats
It’s seldom a good idea to back 6-point road favorites, but that rule of thumb goes out the window when the Raiders are the home dogs. The Ravens are 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS in their last 10 games against the Raiders, who always seem to find ways to lose spectacularly. The computer says this pick is safe up to -8.5, so -6 should be fine.
Congrats to Team OddsShark contestant Kelly Stewart and Eric Sollenberger for starting off 5-0! Good luck to everyone betting the Chiefs-Broncos game tonight as well.
