With a record number of entries in the 2015 SuperContest at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook this year, it should not be too surprising that nearly half the field of 1,727 is again responsible for setting a new mark for top consensus NFL pick.
In fact, this is the third time in five weeks contestants spotted a number off by more than one point on the SuperContest Card from the latest NFL betting lines prior to the Saturday deadline.
In Week 7, 854 entries (49 percent) picked the New York Jets (4-1) as 9-point road underdogs visiting the unbeaten New England Patriots (5-0). Ironically, the Patriots had broken the previous record last week, as they were selected 849 times against the Indianapolis Colts and failed to cover the spread as 7.5-point road chalk in a 34-27 win.
The Jets have covered the spread in the last four meetings with New England, and they were consensus 7.5-point dogs as of Saturday according to the consensus NFL betting odds. The Carolina Panthers held the mark before the Patriots when they were chosen 713 times hosting the New Orleans Saints as 4.5-point home favorites in Week 3.
Team OddsShark Agrees With Consensus
Team OddsShark members agreed with four of the Top 5 consensus NFL picks in Week 7, as nine of them were on the Jets and Atlanta Falcons (5-1), who were listed as 4.5-point road faves on the SuperContest Card visiting the Tennessee Titans.
The St. Louis Rams (2-3) and Arizona Cardinals (4-2) tied for the second most popular play by Team OddsShark members, picked eight times each. The Rams are 5.5-point home chalk hosting the Cleveland Browns (2-3) while the Cardinals are 7.5-point home favorites against the Baltimore Ravens (1-5) on Monday Night Football.
Another Top 5 consensus pick chosen by seven Team OddsShark members is the Panthers (5-0), who are 3-point home chalk facing the Philadelphia Eagles (3-3) on Sunday night.
Group leader David Fucillo from SB Nation has Arizona and Carolina among his five NFL picks in the SuperContest but did not select the Jets or Falcons.
Fucillo has a two-point lead over Ryan Fowler from FOX Sports in the Team OddsShark Standings with 21.5 out of a possible 30 points. The overall leader is three points ahead with 24.5.
