The Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans haven’t been the most reliable teams in the NFL when it comes to covering spreads, but they have been a boon for totals bettors by becoming very profitable OVER plays. Houston (2-5 SU, 2-5 ATS) is 5-1 to the OVER, while Tennessee (1-5 SU, 3-3 ATS) has gone OVER in four out of its opening six games.
- The Titans are 0-9 SU and ATS in their last nine games after an ATS win.
- The Texans are 6-2 SU and ATS in their last eight games after a loss.
- The total has gone over in five of the Texans’ last seven games at home in November.
The Texans have looked like a team that’s been seeking to establish an identity but haven’t quite been able to do so. A revolving quarterback carousel between Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett hasn’t helped matters, but Week 7’s 44-26 blow out at the hands of the Miami Dolphins was a low point for Bill O’Brien’s squad.
Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota was forced to sit out of Week 7’s 10-7 loss to the Atlanta Falcons with a knee injury, and the Hawaii native can’t come back soon enough. Zach Mettenberger was forced to start in Mariota’s place and finished with one touchdown, two interceptions, and 187 passing yards in an uninspiring effort. It was announced Friday that Mariota will miss Sunday’s game as well.
After waiting all week for the line to be release, it finally opened late Friday afternoon with the Texans as 4.5 point favorites while the total is at 43.5.
