The Really Good Team Nobody Is Betting On To Win It All

[ad_1]

When it comes to picking the winner of the NCAA tournament, Duke appears to be the cool dude on campus they all want to hang with, while Kentucky is the hot girl in the library that everyone is ignoring.

Duke is the most popular futures play at several books including Bodog following a run to the ACC tournament championship last week. Odds are down to 5-1 or 6-1 at most spots where the Blue Devils sit atop the futures board.

“Probably the most significant move would be Duke. At one point they were up to 20-1 so anyone who had them is one that stands out right away,” says Adam Burns, sportsbook manager at Bovada.

Kentucky, meanwhile, is a No. 2 seed that just won the SEC conference tournament and has just five losses all season. Yet, the Wildcats are the seventh favorite on the board at 10-1 and aren’t getting much love.

“One team I’m surprised with that nobody’s really touched all year would be Kentucky,” says Burns. “That would probably be the best result for the book. They kind of hung around 10- to 14-1 all year but no one really backed them. Out of the top 10 teams or so, they’d be our best result.”

The Wildcats don’t have it easy in the South Region. They might face Wichita State in the second round and then UCLA after if favorites make it through. The South goes through UNC also.

UCLA is one team that Burns mentioned he took on a futures bet that is also now 10-1. I won’t try to talk you out of it either if you want to tail. Last year Adam was big on Villanova before conference tournament play began and I followed him when Nova was 18-1 then.

That one worked out pretty well.

Here’s a look at the most popular futures plays at Bovada heading into the tournament:

Duke 13%
Kansas 12%
UNC 10%
Zona 9%
UCLA 8%
