The St. Louis Cardinals just did something special for bettors and it feels like barely anyone has noticed.
The Cards are coming off the second-best OVER or UNDER streak we’ve seen during a 20-game period going back almost two decades. Our database goes back to 2002 and says the recent OVER streak of 16-4 that the Cards ripped off ranks second best in our records.
The streak went from April 23 and to May 17 and the only one better came from the Detroit Tigers in 2015. The Tigers went on an OVER bender for the ages that year where they toppled the total an astonishing 19 times in 20 games.
The OVER is now 18-6 in the Cards last 24 games prior to Tuesday’s meeting with the Dodgers and St. Louis can mainly thank surging bats for the run. The Cards hit just .212 through its first two games of the season and now rank 12th in the majors at .256.
The bullpen has also lent a helping arm to the OVER. The Cardinals bullpen owns the third worst win-loss record in the majors at 5-9 behind only Philadelphia and San Diego and its ERA is 4.30, which ranks 20th in the majors.
If anything starts bringing in the UNDER, it will likely be the starting staff of St. Louis. The Cards rank third in the majors in ERA with a 3.50 mark and they lead the majors in strikeouts with 454.
If the bats cool off in a hurry, there will be some UNDER value here so keep an eye. Until then, here’s a look at the best OVER streaks in the majors over a 20-game period going back to 2002.
