Despite all of his personal issues, there has never been a golfer with the ability to electrify an audience like Tiger Woods.
While it’s painfully obvious that Woods’ best days are behind him, the former world No. 1 has vowed to make his grand return to professional golf in 2017. Woods will participate in his first official tournament since August 2015 this weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open, and oddsmakers are just as excited as golf fans for his comeback.
Bovada is offering prop specials on how Eldrick will fare this year, with odds available on if he’ll have a hole-in-one, whether or not he’ll win a tournament, his number of top-10 finishes and if he’ll have more wins than fellow veteran Phil Mickelson.
At the age of 41, Woods still has plenty left to prove. Tiger has been stuck on 14 major championships since the 2008 U.S. Open, which is four back of Jack Nicklaus’ record. The odds of him surpassing Nicklaus are looking slimmer every year, but if Woods has taught us anything, it’s that you should never count him out.
The biggest roadblock standing in his way is clearly his health. Woods was out of action for a year and a half while recovering from multiple back surgeries. If his body holds up, he’ll very likely be in contention on numerous occasions this year, but that’s far from a guarantee.
Personally, I would love to see the old Tiger again. The sport has been blessed with an influx of young talent over the last few years with names like Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day topping the World Golf Rankings, but the game is always better with Tiger around.
What do you think? Will Tiger successfully make his long-awaited comeback, or will he fail to meet expectations again? Have your say in the comments.
