NFL bettors looking to profit by betting on the NFC’s top seeds might want to look for another place to invest their money.
That is, if history repeats itself.
Seattle is the No. 1 seed in the NFC, just like a year ago.
However, the Seahawks are staring at a big 11-point spread against upstart Carolina and also staring at a 1-7 ATS streak by top seeds the past eight divisional playoff weekends.

In fact, four times in those eight seasons, the top seed lost outright in its first playoff game, according to the OddsShark NFL Database.
Seattle beat New Orleans a year ago 23-15 as 9-point favorites, marking the fourth straight year that the top NFC seed had failed to cover.
The Saints did it against Arizona at the end of the 2009 season.
The Seahawks have been awesome lately, but have struggled to cover at this stage of the NFL playoffs. They are just 2-4 ATS in the divisional round since 2000.
Seattle also faces another unfavorable trend in the divisional round, where double-digit favorites have limped to a 3-10 ATS mark since 2006.
