UAB’s Jerod Haase has reached an agreement in principle to become the next head coach at Stanford, a source told CBS Sports on Friday morning.
A formal announcement is expected soon.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein has also confirmed this report.
CBS Sports first reported Thursday that Haase had spoken with the school and was considered among the leading candidates. Haase has been UAB’s coach for four seasons and won 20 games in each of the past two years. UAB made the 2015 NCAA Tournament and won C-USA’s regular-season title this season under Haase. The 41-year-old California native was raised only about 200 miles from Stanford’s campus. Before UAB, he was an assistant under Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams at both Kansas and North Carolina.
Stanford fired Johnny Dawkins last week after eight seasons.
Dawkins subsequently took the UCF job.
