The UFC takes over Ireland once again this Saturday and it will be highlighted by a lightweight battle between Dustin Poirier and Joe Duffy. Since moving up to 155, Poirier has looked exceptional with two wins both by first round knockout. Duffy’s two wins in the UFC have come with an average fight time of 2:26.
“This is a really interesting main event in a division in which there are no easy fights. I believe Joe Duffy deserves to be the favorite, but not quite at this price,” UFC commentator Jon Anik says. “You’re talking about two proven finishers here, both of whom can beat you with strikes or submissions.”
Poirier and Duffy have a combined 32 wins in their careers with victories coming by way of submission on 15 occasions and T/KO 13 times. Those numbers explain why the over/under for rounds being listed at 1.5 (-135/+115) at 5Dimes.
“Not only do I like Poirier’s experience as an advantage, but his current form makes him a hard guy to bet against,” Anik says. “As I said (on the Anik & Florian Podcast) this week, there is definite value on Poirier in that +200 range and I think he has a great chance to be the first guy to finish Duffy with strikes.”
Though Duffy’s years of boxing experience has given him an outstanding jab and patience, Poirier has a lot of experience in the octagon and a great nose for finding the submission.
“This is a fight either guy could win, but the price on Duffy seems inflated,” Anik says.
