Two days removed from watching his team blow one of the biggest leads of his career, Roy Williams made sure his Tar Heels kept their distance for a bounce-back win.

No. 9 UNC held of Northwestern on Monday night at the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City, wining 80-69. The biggest bright spot for UNC so far this season is Brice Johnson; the big man has four double-doubles in his first five games. On Monday night, he went for 10 points and 11 rebounds. In all, six Tar Heels scored in double figures. Justin Jackson led the way with 21 and also had 13 rebounds.

That’s a very good sign for North Carolina, which is still without starting point guard Marcus Paige, who’s getting close to coming back from a broken hand. Jackson has stepped up, scoring 46 in his past two games.

The Heels are now 4-1. Northwestern dropped its first game of the season to move to 3-1.

UNC will face Kansas State in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic championship game on Tuesday night.
