The Kansas State Wildcats and the UCLA Bruins will journey to Texas for January 2 to meet up in the Alamo Bowl at the Alamodome.

The Wildcats snapped a five-bowl losing streak last year by defeating Michigan 31-14 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl as a 7-point favorite. Before that victory Kansas State hadn’t won a bowl game since 2002.

The Bruins recorded a win in the Sun Bowl last season, taking care of Virginia Tech 42-12 as a 7-point favorite. In their last nine bowl games UCLA owns a disappointing 3-6 record SU and a 4-5 ATS mark.

Alamo Bowl Betting Trends: Favorites are 5-1 ATS in the last six Alamo Bowl games . . . Kansas State is 1-5 SU and ATS past six bowl games . . . UNDER is 6-1 past seven games when UCLA is underdog.

One plus for Kansas State, heading into the Alamo Bowl all three of their losses during the regular season came as the underdog.

[Alamo Bowl Matchup Stats | Oregon vs. Texas Betting Preview]

Alamo Bowl Betting Trends: Favorites are 4-1 ATS in the last five Alamo Bowl games . . . Texas are 12-1 SU in their last 13 bowl game appearances . . . The UNDER is 6-2 in the last eight bowl games involving Oregon.

The Oregon Ducks are an impressive 10-2, but have stumbled of late. They have lost two of their last four SU, failing to cover in either game. Oregon needed a last minute TD to eke out a 36-5 win over in-state rivals Oregon State; a game in which they were favored by 24. The previous week, the Ducks suffered a stunning 42-16 upset loss to Arizona, 18.5-point underdogs. Despite their recent troubles, the Ducks still rank third in total yards offense, averaging 573 per game, and score an average of 46.75 points per game, fifth in the nation. The 8-4 Texas Longhorns face the Ducks for the first time since a 35-20 loss in the 2000 Holiday Bowl. Texas had won six in a row SU earlier this season, before losing two of their last three games. The Longhorns have alternated between wins and losses ATS, covering in back-to-back games only once this season, when they recorded underdog wins over Oklahoma and TCU.

The Texas Longhorns and Oregon State Beavers turned in similar SU records this season, but the Beavers were the much better ATS choice as those schools prepare to meet in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on December 29.

[Alamo Bowl Matchup Stats]

Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III leads the Baylor Bears into the Alamo Bowl against the Washington Huskies. The total of 78.5 points is the highest total among all of the bowls.

No matter how high the total was set, with the incredible playmaking ability of Robert Griffin and the 109th ranked defense in the country, Baylor consistently sailed over it all season with a 10-2 record on the OVER. The total went over 80 in eight of Baylor’s 12 games.

Washington started the season off great at 5-1 SU and ATS, but tailed off with a 2-4 record SU and ATS down the stretch. Baylor won each of its last five games of the season (3-1-1 ATS). [ Get a free bowl wager at Bodog ]

Robert Griffin III gave the Heisman Trophy voters no choice but to hand him the hardware with his incredible season. Griffin had 3,998 passing yards and 36 passing touchdowns with just six interceptions, and also rushed for 644 yards and nine touchdowns.

A fifth straight bowl appearance and a top-ranked offense are enough for most sportsbooks to list the Oklahoma State Cowboys as 5-point favorites on the Alamo Bowl odds against the Arizona Wildcats.

Spread / Total (from Bodog)
Oklahoma State -5 / 65.5 Points

[Alamo Bowl Matchup Stats]

Oklahoma State shared the Big 12 South division title, exceeding everyone’s expectations en route to this bowl appearance. College football betting lines fluctuate with some books at 4.5 and some as high as 6-point edges for the Cowboys in this one.

The 16th-ranked Cowboys are considered the road team for the Alamo Bowl and are 5-0 on the road against the spread. Oklahoma State boasted the top offense in the entire FBS with 537.6 yards per game, and ranked third in points with 44.9.

Justin Blackmon will be a threat that Arizona will need to tame if it has any shot at this game. Blackmon led the nation with 151.4 yards receiving per game with 18 TD catches. Quarterback Brandon Weeden was second in the country in passing yards per game and ranked fifth in touchdown passes.

These offensive dynamos will probably have most bettors taking the NCAAF odds in this game and the betting lines will more than likely tip in favor of Oklahoma State.

Arizona was on a roll and possibly heading toward a BCS title shot, but four straight losses to end the season left them facing an uphill battle against this potent offense of the Cowboys.

Arizona was at 7-1 before they fumbled down the stretch. Junior QB Nick Foles led the Pac-10 in passing with 291.1 yards per game, and must regain his form at the quarterback position. And if they get league-leading receiver Juron Criner, who had 73 catches for 1,186 yards, involved, they could defy the oddsmakers.

Totals bettors should note these teams have piled up points all season with 15 of their combined 23 games making winners of OVER bettors.
