Valero Texas Open Odds & Betting Preview

[ad_1]

With a memorable end to the RBC Heritage in the rear-view mirror, the PGA Tour shifts its focus to Texas this weekend for the 2017 edition of the Valero Texas Open. With only five of the top 25 players in the world rankings participating, the field is wide open for sports bettors.

At Bovada, Matt Kuchar is the +1800 favorite with Charley Hoffman (+2000), Brendan Steele (+2200), Brooks Koepka (+2200), Ryan Moore (+2200), Branden Grace (+2500), Jimmy Walker (+2500), Kevin Chappell (+2500), Adam Hadwin (+2800) and Billy Horschel (+2800) comprising the 10 men at the top of the list.

The defending champion, Hoffman staved off a late comeback by Patrick Reed to collect his fourth career victory at the tournament a year ago. The veteran finished with a 3-under-par 69, which gave him a 12-under weekend to hold off Reed by one stroke. The victory came after nine top-15 finishes by Hoffman at the Valero Texas Open. Only Justin Leonard (2000-01) and Zach Johnson (’08-09) have gone back to back at the event.

The course, officially titled the TPC San Antonio but nicknamed the Oaks Course, is fairly new after having opened in January 2010. True to its name, the Oaks Course winds its way through a litany of oak trees and avoiding the woods is essential. Just ask Kevin Na, who shot a 16 (!) here in 2011.

Driving the ball is imperative to success. The greens are smaller and difficult to hit, so players who excel at scrambling will benefit as well. The lengthy par 4s will be the toughest test, as four of them play over 450 yards. Those four are some of the hardest on the course.
