New Orleans Saints (3-4)

Week 8 Top Performers:

  • Drew Brees: 311 yards and three touchdown
  • Mark Ingram: 172 yards and one touchdown
  • Brandin Cooks: 94 yards and a touchdown

Factors to consider:

  • Short rest, only three days to get ready(Sunday to Thursday), additionally they go on the road for week 9
  • Saints getting a big win on Sunday Night against the Green Bay Packers improving their record to 3-4
  • A win for the Saints will put them in first place in the NFC South

Offensive Expectations:

  • Facing a defense that was expected to have a solid year, though the Panther are ranked 21st in yards allowed (ranked 28th in rushing defense)
  • Saints running back Mark Ingram will be getting lots of carries, considering the low ranked Panthers rush defense (allowing 135.2 YPG); Mark Ingram >100yards and a touchdown
  • Also, expect Drew Brees, as always, to throw well over 300 yards and two touchdowns

Defensive Expectations:

  • Despite being ranked low (28th ) in total yards allowed (390.4 YPG), especially in the passing defense (ranked 31st), Rob Ryan’s defense was able to stop Aaron Rodgers and his offense on SNF
  • Their biggest challenge come Thursday Night is stopping Cam Newton in the running game and covering Kelvin Benjamin
  • Pressure Newton go be more involved in the running game than the passing, as Saints are ranked 10th in rushing yards allowed per game.

Carolina Panthers (3-4-1)

Week 7 Top Performers:

  • Cam Newton: 171 yards
  • Jonathan Stewart: 79 yards
  • Kelvin Benjamin: 94 yards

Factors to consider:

  • Coming off a week 8 13-9 loss versus the Seattle Seahawks in a game that was considered very defensive
  • Carolina needs a win to hold top spot in the NFC South
  • Although they will be getting a short rest from Sunday Night to Thursday Night, they will be staying in Carolina for those three days, allowing then to get much more rest then the Saints who go on the road immediately
  • Face a divisional team at home

Offensive Expectations:

  • Going Up against ta mediocre defense that is ranked 28th in total YPG
  • Since the Saints defense is ranked 31st in passing yards, expect Newton to get more involved with his pass offense; Cam Newton <300 yards and two touchdowns
  • Expect Panther Wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin to get a lot of targets as he has been explosive for Ron Rivera’s offense
  • RB Deangelo Williams returns to the line-up, though unpredictable how many carries he will get considering the somewhat high ranking of the Saints rush defense (10th  in rushing yards allowed)

Defensive Expectations:

  • They will be facing the #2 offense in the entire league as the Saints average 445.3 yards per game.
  • Panthers defense Major challenges: Force Drew Brees to throw under pressure to create turnovers
  • Expect them to struggle against the Saints running game as Mark Ingram seems to be getting his flow.

Sports Prediction
The odds table have opened the New Orleans Saints as slight favorites going into Thursday Nights game with a -1 ½ spread. The odds and lines have been changing quickly so sign up with any of the recommended sportsbooks to get your favorable odds on time. Our VSB team thinks that considering the circumstances (playing at home, on primetime and time of rest), the Panthers should be able to win, though it will be a very tight game. That being said, our sports prediction would have to be Carolina Panthers +3 provided by Bovada.
