VIDEO: BYU player ejected after he punches Utah player in Cougars’ loss

The BYU-Utah rivalry is one that’s more heated and vehement than most realize.

But despite the animosity, this is over the line.

BYU freshman guard Nick Emery took out Utah ‘s Brandon Taylor in the second half of Utah’s 83-75 victory on Wednesday night. As you can see in the video above, Emery winds up and takes a fisted shot at Taylor, which causes the Utah senior to buckle to the floor.

Officials caught the act, assessed Emery with a flagrant 2, meaning he was immediately ejected. You can’t have this, no way, no how.

As for the rest of the game, it was Utah’s from start to finish; BYU closed on the margin late, but this was all Utes all night. Sophomore stud Jakob Poeltl went for 26 points and 13 rebounds. BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth, who is now the all-time NCAA leader in triple-doubles, had 15 points, nine boards and five assists in the losing effort. BYU’s Chase Fischer had a season-high 26 points.

Utah is now 6-1, BYU 4-2.

With Emery, he’ll be subject to further punishment from his team, perhaps the West Coast Conference and even the NCAA.
