WATCH: Kam Williams’ clutch 3 ices Ohio State’s upset of No. 8 Iowa

There were Big Ten Tournament, NCAA Tournament and league championship implications on the line for Iowa and Ohio State on Sunday, but in the closing moments of a choppy game the Buckeyes got enough from Kam Williams and others to notch a 68-64 victory against Iowa.

It’s the fifth win in the last six conference games for the Buckeyes and arguably the biggest of the season. Matta improves to 10-2 in regular season home finales with the victory and this young team, without Jae’Sean Tate, is looking like it can stay in the conversation for an at-large bid with a strong performance in the Big Ten tournament.

Marc Loving led the way with 25 points, Keita Bates-Diop was active and playing well. Kam Williams showed why he’s one of the Big Ten’s best 3-point shooters with some incredible clutch shooting in the final minutes.

While Ohio State reversed its fortunes from the 19-point loss to Michigan State on Tuesday (its first of two top-10 opponents this week), Iowa continues to slide. The Hawkeyes are in the mix for the program’s first regular season title in 37 years but have now lost four of their last five and missed an opportunity to steal a win on the road.

Ohio State let Iowa creep back into the game after bad first half, the Hawkeyes lowest scoring first half (30 points) in eight weeks. With Jarrod Uthoff and Peter Jok missing shots early, the best highlight for Iowa was Mike Gesell’s dunking.

Iowa now falls into a tie for second place in the Big Ten standings, a full two games behind Indiana. The Hawkeyes will need help, but do get a crack at the Hoosiers in Iowa City, Iowa on Tuesday night. Ohio State has a long layoff before the regular season finale at Michigan State next weekend, making their Big Ten Tournament performance the final bit of data for their NCAA Tournament profile.
