NC State flirted with danger at home against High Point. After missing on many chances to take the lead in the final 30 seconds, the Wolfpack finally got the edge on HPU with Cat Barber’s off-balance 3 at the horn.
You can see a little push-off there by Barber, but the home team gets away with the win. Barber’s 26 led the Wolfpack. What’s more, he had no turnovers. When Barber plays the way he did on Wednesday, he’s a top-10 player in the ACC without question.
High Point had four players get into double-digit scoring. It’s not often a team shoots 93 percent from the foul line vs. its opponents 59-percent clip and manages to lose, but that’s what happened to the Panthers. High Point couldn’t keep pace on the boards; that was the equalizer.
For NC State, the win was crucial. Mark Gottfried’s team hasn’t gotten off to a blazing start, and a loss here really would have put it behind the 8-ball heading toward ACC play.
The 7-3 Wolfpack have an interesting test coming up next with their road game against 5-4 Missouri on Saturday.
