Wes Washpun had quite the night for Northern Iowa . The powerful point guard force behind one of the nation’s most enigmatic teams — UNI has wins over North Carolina and Iowa State, yet is just 13-11 — threw down a jaw-dropping jam on Evansville.
He also hit the winning layup in the closing minute to seal Northern Iowa’s 57-54 win over Missouri Valley contender Evansville. Washpun finished with 14 points. Here’s the play the team will have a lot of fun with at Thursday’s film session.

How about we get another angle of that, huh?
Love it when the small guys (Washpun is listed at 6-foot-1 but there’s no way he’s that tall) get up and thrown down — hard.

If it’s to only lose one more game, UNI’s chances of making the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team pretty much hinge on running the table and then losing in the MVC title game. Even then, it will be pretty tough (though not impossible; in that scenario UNI would have a win over Wichita State and at least a sweep of Evansville, plus the two huge wins against UNC and ISU). At the very least, this program will be a problem throughout the rest of the season. It’s too well-coached not to make it interesting by the time Arch Madness gets here.
