Watson, McCaffrey lead way in 2016-17 Heisman odds

USA TODAY Sports

We are still months away from the kickoff of the college football season, but it’s never too early to look at who will claim next year’s Heisman Trophy.

Online sportsbook Paddy Power is one of the first shops to open their odds for college football’s most outstanding player and it’s no surprise that two of last year’s finalists lead the way this season.

Clemson quarterback DeShaun Watson and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey top the list at 5/1.

Watson led Clemson all the way to the national championship game throwing for 4,104 yards to go along with 35 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions. He also added a ridiculous 1,105 rushing yards and 12 more scores on the ground.

McCaffrey on the other hand broke Barry Sanders’ record for all-purpose yards in a season with  3,864 to go along with 15 touchdowns.

Last year’s early Heisman frontrunner LSU running back Leonard Fournette is on the board at 10/1 along with Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield. Check out the complete list of odds below.
