It was a rough Week 4 for most of the VSB contestants in the SuperContest, with only four of 12 picking more NFL winners than losers. The VSB Prediction Computer suffered through its worst week of the season at 1-4 after going 2-3 in each of the first three. The computer picked four favorites and one underdog, with the previously unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles coming through as the lone winner as 5.5-point road dogs against the San Francisco 49ers in a 26-21 loss.
The other four SuperContest picks for the computer were the Atlanta Falcons (-3), New Orleans Saints (-3) and New England Patriots (-3.5), who all came up short as road chalk while the Pittsburgh Steelers (-7.5) were upset at home by the previously winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Of course that’s not the say the computer did not make some great Week 4 NFL picks overall, correctly predicting the underdog New York Giants to defeat the Washington Redskins last Thursday and the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers to all win big and easily cover the spread on Sunday.
But the computer was not the only VSB contestant to struggle in Week 4. SuperContest co-leader Todd Fuhrman went 2-3 after going 14-1 in the first three weeks. However, on a positive note, Matt Ufford (5-0), Jason McIntyre (4-1), Kelly Stewart (3-2) and Rob Pizzola (3-2) did manage to post winning weeks to close the gap on Fuhrman for the VSB lead. Ufford’s perfect week included winners on the Eagles, Green Bay Packers (-1.5), Detroit Lions (-1.5), Minnesota Vikings (+3) and Kansas City Chiefs (+3.5) to pull him within four games of Fuhrman.
In addition, Stewart won her Week 4 SuperContest Smackdown with Nick Kostos, who went 2-3 and fell into a tie for third in the VSB Standings with her and McIntyre at 11-9 overall. Who will she take on next in Week 5? Stay tuned to VSB.com for details and a new video coming soon.
