Week 8 was another rough one for the VSB SuperContest team, with only three of the 12 members posting winning records.
The VSB Prediction Computer has gone 2-3 six times in eight weeks this year, including three in a row since a season-best 4-1 mark in Week 5. However, the computer’s two winning picks were both underdogs who won outright on the road in the Buffalo Bills (+3) and Washington Redskins (+9).
The computer’s other three SuperContest picks in Week 8 were the San Diego Chargers (+7.5), Philadelphia Eagles (+2.5) and Seattle Seahawks (-5). The Eagles and Seahawks were very close losers, as Philadelphia lost 24-20 at Arizona and Seattle edged Carolina 13-9 to both fall just short of covering the spread. Overall, the computer had a losing week for just the second time this season, going 7-8 against the spread and 7-7-1 on totals.
The three contestants who enjoyed winning weeks were led by Adam Kramer, who went 5-0 just one week after he and his wife welcomed their first child into the world. Olivia Anne Kramer proved to be the lucky charm for the Kegs ‘N Eggs founder, who is 8-2 over the past two weeks and pulled within five games of group leader Todd Fuhrman.
“After struggling throughout much of the SuperContest, I have discovered the formula to success – have a child, abandon all hopes of sleep, assess these games in a daze with the limited energy you have left, and presto,” Kramer said. “Behold the flawless handicapping formula.”
The other two contestants with winning weeks at 3-2 apiece have each participated in the SuperContest SmackDown videos against Kelly Stewart. David Fucillo and Nick Kostos may have lost those personal battles with Stewart, but they have both bounced back without the pressure of facing her. Speaking of Stewart, she went 1-4 on her bye week from the videos and will face Jason McIntyre from The Big Lead in Week 9.
