In an odd twist, an NFL general manager was perfectly open with his plans for the offseason. John Schneider, the GM of the Seattle Seahawks, spoke about the rumors surrounding Richard Sherman and said “What you’ve seen lately in the new is real. That’s on both sides.”
That’s not to say Sherman is necessarily going anywhere anytime soon, as the cornerback is going to cost a pretty penny from any team interested. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the asking price is “potentially a first-round pick. Potentially a very good player on a low contract and a pick as well.”
With all of that to process, it makes perfect sense that the Seahawks are -200 favorites to have the four-time Pro Bowler on their roster at the start of 2017. Seattle isn’t going to give Sherman away and rarely do you see teams pony up that much to get a player, even if they are one of the elite at their position.
The next two teams with the highest odds to land Sherman belong to the New Orleans Saints (+1000) and the Oakland Raiders (+1000). The Saints have not been quiet about their desire to try and bolster their secondary, as they have actively pursued restricted free agent Malcolm Butler. The Raiders have all the pieces offensively to be a Super Bowl contender but their passing defense ranked 24th in the NFL last season. Plus, Ken Norton Jr., the Raiders defensive coordinator, was on the Seahawks’ coaching staff from 2010-2014.
