Wichita State wins again to maintain spot in CBS Sports Top 25 (and one)

Wichita State won at Evansville Sunday afternoon to complete a regular-season sweep of the Purple Aces. So Gregg Marshall’s Shockers are now on an 11-game winning streak that’s created a three-game lead in the Missouri Valley Conference standings.

No, Wichita State doesn’t have a pile of quality wins on its resume.

But some of that is because the Shockers played three of the top six schools on their schedule, according to the RPI, while Fred VanVleet was sidelined with an injury and before Kansas transfer Conor Frankamp became eligible, meaning the version of Wichita State that won 78-65 at Evansville didn’t exist when the Shockers lost to Iowa, Alabama and USC.

In other words, Wichita State’s record is misleading.

The Shockers are 16-5 overall, sure.

But they’re 13-1 with VanVleet and Frankamp in the lineup.

That’s what matters.

And that’s why WSU is 20th in the updated CBS Sports Top 25 (and one).
