Oddsmakers opened Manhattan as a 7.5-point fave but have to adjust to -9 after seeing early sharp action.
The stakes are the highest they’ve been for the teams participating in Tuesday’s First Four play-in games with a berth in the NCAA tournament on the line.
For the first matchup of the day between the Hampton Pirates and Manhattan Jaspers, online book TopBet.eu is receiving 68 percent of spread wagers on Manhattan.
“The wiseguys jumped on the Jaspers early,” said Brad Kennedy, an oddsmaker for the book. “We opened this one at Manhattan -7.5, but have been forced to adjust it a few times to get to our current line of -9.”
Seventy-three percent of totals bettors are on the game going Over the 141 number.
The action is much more one-sided in the second game of the day, however.
In Mississippi’s meeting with BYU, 87 percent of point spread plays at the sports book are on the Cougars, with 90 percent of moneyline bets backing the Utah-based school.
“We opened BYU -2.5 and have made one adjustment to get to our line of -3,” Kennedy said.
The Over is the popular play of the day, as 75 percent of totals action is on this game being a high-scoring one. The total opened at 157 but has since risen to 158.
