Every NBA Team’s Odds to Make the Playoffs

[ad_1]

For some teams, making the playoffs in the NBA is seen as a victory in itself. For others, it’s all about the rings. No matter which squad you cheer for, Bovada has released odds on the chances of every club in the Association making the playoffs in the 2016-17 season.

Unless you’re interested in backing the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors at -10000 (here’s a hint: don’t), I’ve outlined three of my favorite plus-money value bets for the prop.

Orlando Magic (+155)

The Orlando Magic have been a non-factor in the Eastern Conference since Dwight Howard roamed the paint in the Sunshine State, but that’s about to change this year. The Magic revamped their frontcourt in the offseason by bringing in rebounding and defensive specialists Bismack Biyombo and Serge Ibaka.

Paired up with the emerging Nikola Vucevic, the Congo natives will give Orlando a badly needed boost on both ends of the floor. Victor Oladipo is gone, but the team features a litany of talented young players like Evan Fournier, Mario Hezonja and Aaron Gordon. New head coach Frank Vogel is one of the better bench bosses in the league, and a change of scenery will no doubt benefit him after his exit from Indiana. Expect Orlando to make the leap this year.

Dallas Mavericks (+125)

Year in and year out, so-called “experts” always predict the Dallas Mavericks to sink toward the bottom of the Western Conference standings, but the Mavs somehow defy expectations every time. I don’t expect that trend to change this year.

While it’s true the Mavs’ roster isn’t going to scare anyone, they have enough to make another postseason push. Golden State Warriors castoff Harrison Barnes injects some young blood into the aging lineup, and newly signed Andrew Bogut is a more than capable big man. The Mavs aren’t going to let Dirk Nowitzki finish his career on a rebuilding team, so don’t expect a sell-off if they struggle out of the gate.

Any team coached by Rick Carlisle is going to have a fighting chance. Grab the Mavs at +125 while you can.

Milwaukee Bucks (+130)

The Bucks are perhaps the funkiest and most interesting team in the league. Milwaukee looked like it was ready to become a contender in the Eastern Conference in 2014-15, but they regressed heavily in a disappointing 33-49 season last year. Seeing them at +130 is not much of a surprise, and I think the oddsmakers have this one wrong.

If you were giving grades based purely on length and athleticism, the Bucks would get an A+. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jabari Parker, Michael Carter-Williams, Khris Middleton and John Henson are a nice core, and adding Matthew Dellavedova, Michael Beasley and 7’1” 19-year-old Thon Maker was a nice touch.

There’s no middle ground with this team; they’re either going to sink or swim. There’s simply too much potential here for the Bucks to repeat last season, so I’m happily taking them at +130.

Here’s a look at the book’s full list of odds:
