Daryl Gross is out as Syracuse’s athletic director, and the school has announced Jim Boeheim will retire as its men’s basketball coach after three more seasons.
This means Boeheim is expected to be gone following the 2017-18 season.
Boeheim has been the coach at Syracuse since the 1976-77 season. He’s made four Final Fours and won a national championship thanks to the enrollment of Carmelo Anthony in advance of the 2002-03 season. But Boeheim’s future was brought into question earlier this month after the NCAA punished his program following a lengthy investigation that uncovered both major and minor violations.
Gross had been Syracuse’s AD since 2005.
His biggest lasting impact will be leading Syracuse’s move to the ACC from the Big East, which brought the athletic department previously unforeseen revenue growth.
